Revising

I mentioned in my last post that I'm working on revising The Honeymoon, a book I first wrote about 20 years ago. I told you how funny and dated the technology is, so part of my revision has been to edit and fix all sections where people living today would simply pull out their phones—to contact someone, to book a hotel, to find something...there's a lot to fix!

Another thing I'm addressing is the fact that I have three distinct versions of that book now because as I tried to sell it to publishers over the years, various editors had differing notes and changes they wanted to see. Ultimately, I didn't sell it, but I absolutely love these characters, and I'm not giving up on getting their story told. So now I'm left to figure out where, in the middle of those three versions, is the story I really want to tell. In the end, I decided that a mixture of versions 2 and 3 is the perfect solution. So I've been sewing those two very different versions together.

The final thing I'm working on—in addition to the technology and the version issues—is just simple editing. This experience has really shown me how writing skills grow and change over time. I'm a much better writer now than I was 20 years ago!

So what is The Honeymoon about? Here's a description:

When Olivia and her cold feet join an unsuspecting John at the altar, neither one can possibly guess the future that awaits them: A guilty bride, a suspicious groom, an agonizing reception, a break up at 32,000 feet, nonstop bickering, jealousy, and a meltdown in the airplane bathroom—and the honeymoon’s just getting started!

I can't wait to finally get John and Olivia's story in the hands of readers! My current plan is to have that book pubbed next year (2023).
